The purpose of the McKinney-Vento Education of Homeless Children and Youth Act is to ensure that all homeless children have equal access to the same free appropriate public education, including public preschool education, provided to children and youth who are permanently housed. 

1. Ensure that parents or guardians are informed of educational and related opportunities that are available to children and are provided meaningful opportunities to participate in their children’s education.

2. Assist with enrollment dispute resolution cases and ensure they are mediated in accordance with the state’s enrollment dispute resolution process.

3. Ensure that the parent or guardian of a homeless child or youth, and any unaccompanied youth, is fully informed of all transportation services, including to the school of origin and that assistance to accessing transportation services is provided.

4. Post educational rights of homeless children and youth in all schools.

5. Work with the Superintendent or designee to monitor regulations and guidance related to policy that may be issued by applicable state and federal agencies (e.g., DCYF, NHDOE, and the U.S. Department of Education).
